Are Government Grants For Women Available?

by J. Hamilton Fraser on January 21, 2010

Government grants for women are intended to help out women who are in a disadvantaged situation. Unfortunately today, there are still many women who do not have equal opportunities. In what can seem like a man’s world, women who find themselves in the position of being single parents tend to find it a lot more difficult when it comes to pursuing further education or opening up their own business. Nowadays, there are many schemes available by which these disadvantaged women can be given financial aid in the form of government grants for women.

There is not a time in the past where women have not been disadvantaged. Although nowadays much of this inequality has been addressed, there are still plenty of women who need help. In the United States of America, over US$45 billion is allocated each year specifically for this purpose. There are grants women can be given to help them return to further education and some small business government grants for women which attempt to financially improve a woman’s chances of starting up her own business venture. Unfortunately, this is not the case throughout the world. There are many places in the world where women are still second class citizens and don’t get the same opportunities as their male counterparts. In most western countries, this situation is not so.

So how do you get a government grant? The first thing you need to do is make a detailed search of the Internet to find out what government grants are available and if you qualify. The qualifications for most government grants will depend on a few factors. In a lot of cases there may need to be a means test. This means that your household income will be taken into account. In the case of grants for women entrepreneurs, you may have to submit a business plan with detailed figures about your projected profits.

The government grants for women that are given to further a woman’s education are a lot of the time provided to those who find themselves living as a single parent. These single parents often find it very difficult to gather together the finances and the time in order to pursue further education. Often the only way that these women can improve their situation is by receiving financial aid from the government.
