Accounting

Best practice accountancy makes managing tax easy, but tailoring your own accountancy to cover all the bases can be a bit tricky. Most businesspeople are well versed in their own business accounting needs, but tend to get a bit lost when it comes to tax. The good news is that even simple business accounting software can now do a lot to help.

Tax accountancy needs for businesses can vary widely, and it’s important to ensure that you can deal with your tax records and tax-related accounts efficiently and preferably do all the work as you go. “Tax time” really shouldn’t be a problem, if you manage the nuts and bolts of the accounts effectively.

The best small business accounting software can do wonders in this area. You can now get good, customized software which makes the tax issues a lot easier to manage and much easier to understand. The main issue is to ensure that you’ve got all the information you need, easily accessible, comprehensible, and simple to operate for you and your staff.

Business accounts and tax- An overview

Business accounts by definition generate a lot of tax information. Most of this information is actually pretty straightforward, and it’s really just a matter of identifying the tax record requirements and making sure your records are compliant with any tax laws.

The problems start for most businesses with the “grey areas”- tax information which relates to things like business expenses, deductions, tax offsets, and other esoteric things. Many people don’t know what they can claim, and spend money which they could use to reduce their tax bills. These items are usually well recorded, but don’t seem to find their way on to the tax returns.

This is where you need a meeting of the minds with your tax accountants and your business accounting software providers. For the price of a couple of phone calls, you can set up your accounts to help save you a lot of money:

1. Talk to your tax accountants first. Get them to send you a complete description of your tax record requirements, and talk about how to record your expenses. This is a lot simpler than it sounds. Your tax accountants will be able to provide you with plenty of options and explain the tax accountancy records and entries required.

2. Talk to your business accounting software providers. Send them the information provided by your tax accountants, and explain that you need your software tailored to provide this information. This is quite simple, and you’ll find you have a customized accounts software package that will do all the work for you.

All you need to do after that is just confirm with the tax accountants that you’ve got everything you need. Your tax information entries will be simpler, more efficient and much easier to access for your tax return. It’s simple, it’s easy, and it will save you a lot of money.

Important note: If you’ve been using off the shelf business accounting software and your business is outgrowing it, you really do need to upgrade to the more modern, more flexible accounting options.
