Motor Insurance – How to Obtain More Savings

by J. Hamilton Fraser on March 25, 2010

Car insurance is an essential requirement when driving a car on the road. Just because you have to pay for a policy every year does not mean you have to put up with the increased premiums that are imposed on motorists. That’s why it’s important to get big savings when purchasing a motor insurance policy and you can do this by following the money savings steps listed below.

Adding a young driver to your policy is what’s called false economy and will increase the cost of your premium. Inexperienced drivers will always increase the costs as they have limited no claims bonus and insurers always calculate the cost of the premium on the youngest driver. It might be a better option for younger drivers to take out a third party fire and theft policy rather than a comprehensive one. But, if the young driver has an accident and it was their fault they would have to pay for the repairs to their vehicle out of their own money.

Depending on what type of car you drive can have a huge effect on the price of the premium. Sports cars and high performance cars will attract high insurance costs. The smaller the engine size the smaller the price of the premium. Having a smaller car not only gives you a cheaper quote but it takes less petrol and low maintenance costs too. Think twice if you are thinking of changing your car for a more expensive model, as it will cost you more in insurance premiums that’s for sure.

Is your garage still full of rubbish? Then clear it out and because by storing your car in a secure place like your garage can earn you a discount. There is a much higher risk factor of your car being burgled and stolen if you where to park it on the road or in your driveway.
