Getting out of debt is not something you just do, it’s a process and you have to discipline yourself to do it. Basically you need to have a plan…preferably a debt elimination plan. And we wonder why so many people continue to stay in debt these days. When I’m talking to clients I usually try and compare getting out of debt to a world class or professional athlete in training getting prepared for an event or the upcoming season. I tell them it’s a process and to get out of debt you must commit to a lifestyle change, at least when it comes to your finances.
For example, have you ever wondered how a gifted college athelete who excelled at their sport, goes to the professional level and becomes a bust? Studies have shown that many of these types of players failed on the pro level because they stopped following a process or system that got them there is the first place. Now for the players or atheletes who are playing and excelling on the professional level, like the Mannings, Jordans, Jeters, and Woods. They continue to follow a process and system. Is hard for them? Of course it is at times, and they may want slack off or quit at times. But they don’t! Why is that? The truth is they’re not willing to waste all that hard work they have done in the past. They have worked hard to create and setup new processes to help them succeed at their given sport. As with your finances, you must have that same kind of thinking if you want to get out of debt and become financially successful.
If you want to get out of debt and pay off your creditors for all those unneccessary purchases you made in the past, you must keep you eye on the prize, which is financial freedom. You need to have the mindset of successful professional player and focus on your short and long term objectives and keep going.
So to get out of debt you need to setup a debt elimination plans, and get on your journey. You may and will have some bumps on the road, but don’t get off of it, and stay the course. As you will come to see, you debt will start to disappear, and your debt journey will get a little easier. Don’t stop now, because financial independence is yours for the taken!
